About Me
I was born in
Nottingham in 1945.
My interest in
art began at an early age and as a child I spent my time drawing and modelling
small figures. This experience later developed into a love for creating
sculpture out of paper which is now my preferred medium. I find this natural
material not only easy to manipulate but also an inexpensive alternative to
traditional sculptural supplies.
I received no
formal training as an artist but being a firm believer in "having a go" I
exhibited at the Nottingham Midland Group Arts Centre in 1986. This pivotal
exhibition launched my new career as a professional sculptor.
Since 1986
several major solo exhibitions of my paper figures and animals have toured the
U.K. These collections include Paper People, People in Place, My Best
Friend?, Strangely Familiar and a series of life-sized cardboard animals
called Wildlife in
Danger. During the early 1990's I contributed to several of the Recycled Art
Exhibitions in Paris, France.
I have been
commissioned by international paper manufacturers to create artwork utilizing
their materials. In addition, I have produced window displays for the
prestigious department store, Harvey Nichols, in London. My largest
commission to date has been the creation of 60 figures for the Nottingham -
based visitor attraction, The Tales of Robin Hood. I have appeared on
numerous television programs with my work and a portion of my art belongs to
permanent collections in museums and art galleries in the U. K. and is also
owned by private collectors around the world. I have also taken on the role
of "artist in residence" working with adults and children in a variety of
educational settings.
